"Lucania opens its
expanses, its valleys where rivers flow slowly like
rivers of dust."
Leonardo Sinisgalli
This small region in Southern Italy, with its mountainous heart, touches the
Mediterranean Sea on two sides with gentle coastlines and beaches: to the
southwest with the Gulf of Policastro on the Tyrrhenian Sea and to the
southeast on the Ionian Sea in the Gulf of Taranto. These places
were already important during the time of Magna Graecia when the
region was still called Lucania, serving as strategic points from which to
dominate the Mediterranean Sea. If you are considering a vacation
immersed in the history and nature of these places, you couldn't make a
better choice. |
